Listening to music has been shown to have many therapeutic applications including calming breathing, slowing the heart rate, reducing blood pressure, and triggering a deep relaxation response. Meditation has been shown to calm breathing, slow heart rate, reduce blood pressure, and trigger a deep relaxation response. Funny how that works! We are just taking two things that are great on their own but even better when you put them together, kind of like peanut butter and chocolate!
Music Meditation consists of sitting in a nice, comfortable lounger (or laying on the Vibroacoustic Sound Therapy bed if the client has chosen to pair the two). Depending on the client's mood and comfort level with meditation, one of two techniques can be employed.
The client can either listen to meditation or guided imagery tracks with music that is designed specifically for relaxation and meditative purposes. Or, after being shown a very simple yet effective method of using any kind of music for meditation, a playlist is selected according to the preference of the client who then sits and enjoys a relaxing 30 or 60 minute session.
For those who have previously used binaural beats, monaural beats, or isochronic tones, they can also be incorporated. Click here for more information on brainwave entrainment.
